How to order a repeat prescription

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered 3 different ways:

1. Online : NHS App or Patient Access
This is the fastest method (once medication reviews up to date) as it gets directly into the GP computer system

2. Via Pharmacist
This route depends on date scripts are transferred from the Pharmacist to the surgery and time taken to transcribe onto the GP computer system

3. Written request submitted to the practice
Additional time required to transcribe accurately onto the GP computer system and this varies with volume received

Consultant led prescriptions – Following your consultant/ hospital appointment if any medication that has been prescribed by them. You will need supporting document (copy of clinical/ discharge letter stating the reason for issue and the dose and monitoring requirements) before this can be issued by a GP

For Medico-Legal reasons and to avoid errors, Telephone requests are not accepted.

Please allow plenty of time for your repeat prescriptions to be prepared especially around bank holidays. Your prescription will take four full working days to process from the date of receipt at the Practice (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays).

Online Requests Patients can request their repeat prescriptions quickly and easily using our online services. To use these services you need to be registered first. You can do this by registering for the NHS App.

If you would like to request an item which you have had in the past and does not appear on your repeat medication list on the Patient Access or NHS App, you can make a request by adding a comment to your request.

Written Requests The system is computerised, so please use the printed request slip on the right hand side of your previous prescription or write your full details, including the name and strength of the drug. You may deliver your request to the surgery or have a pharmacist deliver it on your behalf.

We will arrange for your prescription to be sent to your nominated Pharmacy where you can then collect it during their usual pharmacy opening hours. Alternatively we can send you a token by text message that you can use at any Pharmacy in England.

If you would prefer your prescription posted back to you please supply a S.A.E. stamped addressed envelope with your request.

Repeat Dispensing The system allows the Surgery to issue a batch of prescriptions to your nominated local Pharmacy for patients on a stable medication regime over the duration of your medication review. To find out more please ask at Reception/ see video on link above.
